To the Holy Land in May (with May)

1 02 2012

“The land is the Fifth Gospel.”  Cyril of Jerusalem, around A.D. 348

“After one has seen the old cities and landscapes, one reads the Bible with different eyes.”  Jerome, A.D. 400

Both of these quotes above capture some of the importance of experiencing the Bible within the context of the geographical world in which it was written, heard and lived out.  For this reason, I am excited to announce an upcoming study tour to the Holy Land on May 21-30, 2012.

Excavating in Banias (Caesarea Philippi)

Jointly sponsored by Central Baptist Theological Seminary and the Laity School of St. Paul School of Theology, Dr. Mike Graves and myself will lead the trip to numerous biblical sites, such as, Nazareth, Caesarea Philippi (I spent a season excavating here; you can see [in the photo] where I played in the dirt), the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. The cost is $2,900 per person, including round-trip airfare from KCI, accommodations at three-star hotels, all ground transportation, and two meals per day.
